Worrying is something we do a lot! But you and I know that worrying gets us nowhere. It is one futile yet physically and mentally draining habit we all indulge in now and then.
Worry could be an addiction, something we simply do in response to certain triggers. Like all addictive activities, worrying does not solve the problem. It complicates things.
Today, I am sharing 9 reasons we should all worry less. So, this is my heartfelt letter to all my worrying buddies out there. May we all find the faith to trust our loving father that he has it all figured out.
He’s got the flowers in the field. How much more you and I.
1- Worrying solves nothing.
Problems do not disappear when you worry! In fact, worrying complicates things for you. So why worry?
Which of you, by worrying, can add a single hour to his life? Matthew 6:27.
2- Worrying costs you sleep and peace of mind.
Those countless nights that you spend counting sheep on the ceiling and simulating probable outcomes. Yet, nothing changes! God offers an alternative. Be still and know that I am God. When you let go worrying, you will learn to live peacefully. Surrender is peaceful.
Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you. 2 Thessalonians 3:16.
When you let go worrying, you will learn to live freely.
3- A worrying heart cannot trust.
Worry eats trust for breakfast! A worrying heart cannot trust that God has it all figured out. But when you let go of your worries, you let God handle them. You are more valuable to God.
And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith? Matthew 6:30.
4- A worrying mind cannot pray or worship.
You cannot worry and pray. Nor can worry and worship. You can only do one or the other. So why worry when you can pray?
Don't worry about anything, but pray about everything. With thankful hearts, offer up your prayers and requests to God. Philippians 4: 6.
5- Worrying holds you back from living the moment to the fullest.
Worrying is the enemy of today, the boogeyman tomorrow, and the lie we believed yesterday. When you let go worrying, you will learn to live freely.
Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Matthew 6:34.
6- Worrying robs you of courage to confront your fears.
When you worry in the face of adversity, you default into flight mode instead of fight mode. But courage helps you get things done even in face of fear. Sometimes, we have to get things done even when we are afraid. Don’t worry- do it afraid.
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go. Joshua 1: 19.
7- Worrying breeds anxiety.
Worry causes fear, and fear causes anxiety. Anxiety paralyses you. It freezes your dream, hope, and faith. You are not you when anxious. Under the influence of anxiety, you accomplish nothing.
8- You have no control over the things you worry about.
That is why we worry. Instead of putting all your resources into worrying, why not commit it all into God’s hands. He has control!
Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? And if worry can’t accomplish a little thing like that, what’s the use of worrying over bigger things? Luke12: 25-26.
9- God says don’t worry.
He has it all figured out, trust that he has. His grace is sufficient for today. When you hand over your worries to God, you lose nothing. Surrendering them to God is not your loss, it’s your gain.
Therefore, I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Matthew 6:25.
Thanks for visiting. I hope you make that intentional choice to worry less about some things in your life. Remember, your heavenly father has it all figured out for you. Tomorrow is secure in him. Can you trust that is true?
